Upper Midwest Body Art Conference in ND
I have the honor of being the keynote speaker for the Upper Midwest Body Art Conference in Minot, ND.
I will be delivering the keynote address about my experiences in the field of piercing, and my role in bringing the modern body piercing movement out of the fringes of society and into the mainstream. Along with fellow Association of Professional Piercers Board Member, Brian Skellie, I'll be doing a brief talk about our organization.
Here's more information on the event, which will take place on September 7 and 8.
Upper Midwest Body Art Conference
September 7 and 8, 2010
Sleep Inn and Suites- Minot, North Dakota
Brought to you by the North Dakota Environmental Health Association
and the First District Health Unit
Open to all Tattooists, Piercers, Cosmetic Tattooists and anyone else involved in or interested in body art practices; and to all regulators of body art establishments.
Tuesday, September 7: Presentations will begin at 10:00. See the attached agenda for speakers and topics.
We are pleased to announce that our keynote address will be delivered by world-renowned professional body piercer and author of The Piercing Bible--The Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing, Elayne Angel. The Piercing Bible is the only comprehensive book devoted exclusively to the subject of body piercing. Elayne has performed over 40,000 piercings in her career beginning in the 1980’s, when she managed the first piercing specialty studio in the United States. She was founder and President of Rings of Desire, the only licensed body art studio in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where she pierced for over twelve years. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, she closed Rings of Desire and relocated to the Yucatán in Mexico.
Elayne is a monthly columnist for the body art industry trade publication, Pain Magazine. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Professional Piercers as Medical Liaison and is a recipient of the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the organization. She will be present during both days of the conference and will have copies of The Piercing Bible available for purchase.
There will be a social open to all attendees from 7 to 9 Tuesday night.
Wednesday, September 8: Blood borne pathogens class. The class will start at 8:00. Attendees will get detailed training about blood borne pathogens and infection control aimed specifically at the body art studio environment. The course will be taught by David A. Vidra of Health Educators Inc. (www.hlthedu.com). David brings years of experience in both the medical and body art fields to the classroom.
Those interested in attending will have the option of coming to either day or both days. Lunch will be provided each day. The cost for both days of the conference will be 150.00. For those just wishing to attend day one, it will be 75.00 and it will be 125.00 for those just wishing to attend the blood borne pathogens class.
The training will be held at the Sleep Inn and Suites. The Sleep Inn is adjacent to the Dakota Square Mall, and is the home of the Splash Down Dakota Water Park. A block of rooms is being held at the Sleep Inn at the rate of 63.00 per night plus tax (when calling to make reservations, reference the First District Health Unit body art conference).
