I received a message from a woman who is interested in getting a triangle piercing. She had sent me some photos and I told her she appeared to be anatomically suited to a triangle piercing. Then she wrote:
I contacted a piercing studio and the receptionist told me a triangle is a ''nightmare piercing, not suited for someone who is sexually active, it's a horrible piercing.'' I was also told ''It'll stretch''. Is this actually true?
I feel really gutted because I've heard good things about the triangle and love the look of it but I've never heard this before. I know it's anatomy dependent but I thought it was a fine piercing for someone with the right anatomy, which I believe I do have after doing lots of research.
Can you please shed some light on this?
My reply:
Yes! I can shed some light on it. What you have there is a piercer who doesn't know what they're doing! Or someone who got pierced by someone who didn't know what they're doing... When properly placed on someone who is anatomically suited, they're fantastic. Several of my clients have even reported they'd never had an orgasm until after I'd performed their triangle piercings! Proper placement and correct jewelry selection are key. A complete ring is much less wearable and makes healing difficult. But I use a custom-fitted circular barbell so the jewelry rests tucked against the body. In this way it is protected and comfortable.
If you really want to flesh out your research (so to speak), I highly suggest you read my book, The Piercing Bible--The Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing. It contains loads of information about evaluating piercers and studios, anatomy and piercing placements (including all about the triangle and the other female genital piercings), appropriate body jewelry sizes, styles, and materials, aftercare, troubleshooting, and much, much more. You can feel entirely confident of making good choices if you read it.

You might want to hold off until you can read it as it contains loads of information about evaluating piercers and studios, appropriate body jewelry sizes, styles, and materials, aftercare, and much, much more.
Also, if you'd like to see me performing piercings, and demonstrating exactly where they should be placed and how quickly and easily an expert can perform them, I've got videos available here:
(You'll see that a piercing can be performed in an instant!)
She responded:
Hi again :)
I actually have your book and it is fantastic! I've learned a lot from reading it about anatomy, etc. The person who said this was the receptionist at the studio, not the piercer - I have heard good things about the piercer who works there, but apparently they only do a few triangles a year. I now feel lost about where to go as many places in London say they can do it for me but I'm worried about it going wrong as no one seems confident in it. I would love to visit you to get mine done by you but you are in America.
Your book is extremely helpful but unfortunately it doesn't include good piercers in and around London so I feel totally stuck which what studio to go to.
Thanks for the prompt response, I was told by a friend to send you an email as you are very knowledgeable and helpful - she was right!
