Signed copies of The Piercing Bible are now available in my old stomping grounds: New Orleans. You can pick one up at NOLA Tattoo at 8120 Hampson Street; Uptown New Orleans near the Riverbend. Call them at (504) 524-6147 if you have questions. If you're in the market for a piercing, I highly recommend Pat Roig. He apprenticed under me and pierced at my French Quarter specialty studio, Rings of Desire, (closed following hurricane Katrina) for over 10 years. He's an excellent, highly experienced piercer, and a heck of a nice guy, too. If you're looking to get tattooed, I highlty suggest NOLA Tattoo's own Walt Clark. He is extremely talented and also a super greaty guy. He inked the flowers that cover my hands--a miniature version of the floral vines that cover my arms. I ran into an interesting article online: What Massage Therapists Should Know About Body Piercings. It was well written and factual with the exception that they reiterated the ubiquitous piercing myths: that Roman soldiers pierced their nipples and that Egyptian pharaohs pierced their navels. I also contend that the rate of complications would be a lot lower if consumers were better educated--and now they can be, thanks to The Piercing Bible!

How did you find this website?
I'm so excited to see a book like this being published. I was really impressed by how neutral it remained without leaving things out. Its really hard to write on this subject because so much of piercing is personal preference, but you did a fantastic job! xo- Cj
Cj makes a good point there, because primarily the book does share my opinions (due to a short supply of "substantive research studies, statistical analyses, and other definitive resource materials related to body piercing" as it says in The Piercing Bible. I feel proud to have expressed them while still seeming "neutral"--that's tricky to be sure! It is great to hear that.

I got a lovely message in my guestbook on The Piercing Bible website:
How did you find this website?
I searched for Elayne after reading The Piercing Bible twice already!
I, Jordan, am a body piercing apprentice in Canandaigua, New York and LOVE LOVE LOVE your book! It is my authority on body piercing and I read your book once from cover to cover, and then read it again with a hi-lighter in hand! My girl, Crista, and I are body piercing enthusiasts and love your style and attitude. You are a beautiful inside and out and we hold a lot of respect for you as a person and professional! Love, Jordan and Crista

Last week I heard from a piercer in Serbia who had received a copy of The Piercing Bible, and I'd posted on my Facebook page that I'd seen it for sale in New Zealand. Then today I received this from the Administrator for the Association of Professional Piercers. She's the person filling my orders from the APP website (where you can get an autographed copy, and 25% of the proceeds go to the organization, which is a worthy cause). How cool!
"The APP just sold a copy to a gentleman in South Africa and a woman in the Netherlands tracked down a place she could get it there...you are world wide now!"

I gave a brief interview about starting over (after Hurricane Katrina) and it was posted here along with a number of other highly uplifting stories. Here's mine: Elayne Angel I had a successful business in the French Quarter of New Orleans for over 12 years. Unfortunately, it closed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. My husband and I spent a modest sum and moved into a home in the Yucatan of Mexico. In this new, quiet environment I applied myself to writing a book “The Piercing Bible” on my area of expertise. The book has been published (by Ten Speed/Random House) and now my job is promoting it online and via book signings around the US. I networked with everyone I knew to let them know that I was writing a book and I got lucky: I have a friend whose brother works in publishing. He heard about my project and took an interest in it. He was instrumental in getting my proposal and sample chapters to a few major publishers. Without his assistance, I'm not sure how long it might have taken to get published. http://piercingbible.com To give credit where credit is due, my friend mentioned above is Caitlin McDiarmid, the Administrator for the Association of Professional Piercers. And the instrumental help was given to me by her brother, Mark. Here's to the McDiarmids for all of their amazing support!
