I received this email from a woman who obviously found her piercings to have a great impact on her quality of life and self esteem:
Hi Angel! I bought your book yesterday and I am enjoying it immensely! I just got both my nipples pierced on Thursday and your book has helped me to see that I am not weird or crazy for doing this to my body. (As so many people think it is weird or crazy) Getting this type of piercing was so not like me, I'm usually quite shy and reserved. (A little background on myself, I'm almost 31 and work as a receptionist.) But I felt the need to break out of that shell and do something different. Getting my nipples pierced was something I've thought about doing for so long, but never told anyone for fear of being judged. It was bad enough when several years ago I had my navel pierced and I was scolded and lectured by people close to me who I thought were open minded enough. (I no longer have the navel ring, I had gall-bladder surgery in 2006 and had to take it out and I never put it back in I was in so much pain!) Getting my nipples done makes me feel sexy and good about my body. It has also inspired me to start working out more so I can have a nice shape to go w/my sexy new piercing! I also feel more confident in myself around men and just about myself in general. I wish I knew about organizations or groups in my area where I could be-friend others who've been pierced. Thank you for being the outgoing, courageous and beautiful person you are to the piercing community. For those out there who are like me, you give us strength to know we are not alone and we have done nothing wrong w/our bodies expect express ourselves how we see fit. I wish you could have done my piercing! (Although I must say the guy who did mine was EXCELLENT!! I would recommend him to anyone in my area) Keep up your excellent work and God Bless With sincere thanks, E.
Hi E. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your feelings with me. I really appreciate your email. I'm glad that you were able to get pierced, that you had a great experience, and that you are enjoying your piercings! That's the way it should be! Congratulations on your nipple piercings! As far as having like-minded people to share your piercings with, there are many online communities such as BMEzine and their IAM community, Tribalectic.com, and others. Oh, and would you mind telling me who your piercer was? I so often hear negative stories that I'd like to find out who is doing good work!
Take care,
Elayne
