I received a message from a woman who had a question about certain legalities of piercing:


Hello my name is T and I've been piercing out of my home for the past 4 years and i have a problem. im starting to save money and build a business but someone is trying to bring me down. im currently creating a facebook page for my new business and an employee from a tattoo shop said he reported me to the police for piercing out of my home. ive been doing this for more than 4 years and i looked up on the internet for the state of pennsylvania you dont need a license to tattoo/pierce but hes telling me to get an apprenticeship. do i need that?

T.,

I don't know anything about your local laws, but I know a great deal about professional piercing and I must say that it absolutely should take place out of a proper studio and not a home.

You must have an autoclave that is spore tested regularly by an outside service, a separate enclosed area for piercing, a seperate steriliztion room, and much more.

Still Yet ANOTHER Accidental Clitoris Piercing (Botched VCH) Hood Piercing

I received a message from a woman who went in to get her hood pierced, and came out with her clitoral glans pierced!

Hi I had my vch done 4 days ago with a standard curved barbell but I'm really not sure about the placement, it moves about loads too. Do I just need a smaller bar? Or take it out all together?

My reply:

That's not a VCH--it is a CLITORAL GLANS piercing. And you should take that long bar out immediately!

If you like the way it feels and decide to keep it, you should get a bar that is half the length of the current one. The one you're wearing is dangerously long and you could end up with a split clitoris if you accidentally caught it.

Please refer to this page to clarify the difference between a VCH and a clitoris piercing.

Would you like me to post the name and studio of the offending piercer so other women don't go to him for genital piercings? If you did not request a clitoris piercing than you have been seriously wronged! If your clitoris were any smaller, it could have really damaged your sexual pleasure.

Even Ear Lobe Piercings Can Be Dangerous

I received a message from a gal who had ear lobe piercings done with an ear stud gun and she experienced complications:

Hi,
About 4 weeks ago I gor my ear lobe pierced with a piercing gun, and just recently one of my piercings has started to become very sore, and then today I went to clean it with a spray the piercing place gave me but as soon as I rotated it it starting oozing a lot of green pus, and then bleeding. I don't understand why this has happened as I have followed all instructions on cleaning the piercing, and I can't find any information on why the piercing is bleeding. What should I do? H.

My reply:

Hi H.,

Piercing guns do NOT meet the Association of Professional Piercers guidelines for safe piercing in terms of hygiene nor jewelry style and material. This page of the APP site has information about it: http://www.safepiercing.org/piercing/faq/#guns

Go to a competent body piercer immediately for appropriate jewelry!

They can insert jewelry that is higher quality and a more appropriate style for healing. You may need to see a doctor but let a professional piercer get a look at you first.

Learning to Pierce- A Piercing Apprentice

I really love all that you do for the piercing industry. And with that being said i am just starting out in the piercing industry. I've just recieved my piercing license. And was wanting to know where you get your tools and piercing supplies from. And if you would know of anyone in the Lincoln or Omaha Nebraska area who you would recommend to try to get an apprentership with.

Apadravya (Male Genital )Piercing with Hypertrophic Scarring

I received a some photos and quetions from a man who got an apadravya piercing

My name is P. and i am from Germany.
I am very confused right now because of my Apadravya and wanted to know, if you could be so kind to say me, what i can do.

I got it done at the 31 August in 2012.Penis with apadravya piercing and mark for traditional placement

After a few stretchings i am now at 2.4 mm with a length of 25mm.

About 3 weeks after i got the piercing there was some tissue growing in front of my Piercing and i tried to make it go away by sticking a needle in it.

Now the tissue is still there. It is dead, so i have no feeling there and it is very hard.

I wanted to ask another piercer what i could do to make it go away but she said, that the real problem would be, that my Apadravya is way to near the tip of my penis and that i should take it out because it will definately migrate.

I am very desperate now and wanted to ask you if this is true and if it is not, if you know what i can do to make this tissue go away.

Navel Piercing and Bloating/Weight Loss?

I received a message from a woman who had some concerns related to her navel piercing:

Hello,
I got my belly done yesterday but it looks quite bloated? Is it supposed to be? And also is it possible to loose weight whilst wearing a belly bar?

My reply:
There could be some localized swelling but it would not be normal for a navel piercing to result in generalized abdominal bloating. In fact, I can't think of a single medical reason that a piercing could cause that to happen. More likley you have eaten something that doesn't agree with you.

Also, the ability to lose (or gain) weight relates to the intake of calories and output of energy. There is no relation between your navel piercing and your body's ability to gain, lose, or maintain your weight.

That said, during initial healing you need to be conscious of not injuring the area or causing excessive trauma during physical activities.

    Generally, you can exercise during healing if you avoid extremes of motion and prevent impact to the pierced area. Still, your activities often need to be modified—at least for a while—if they cause problems with your piercing.
